I am so excited to share the story of what God has been up to in our lives and how He moved us to the OBX to work with FCA around Northeast North Carolina. We’ve shared the details of how this unbelievable transition happened, but just in case you missed it . . .
The beginning actually goes back several decades. Growing up, I often visited the OBX with my family and friends. It quickly became one of my favorite places. Little did I know that my wife also spent much time there with her family. We both love the beach, and in particular the Outer Banks area.
After graduating high school in 1987, I went to the OBX for Beach Week. During that week I was out in the ocean swimming when I realized I was caught in a riptide and couldn’t get back to shore. My friends had to swim out to bring me in, and I wondered what would have happened if I had died. I wasn’t sure of my salvation, so I put my faith and trust in Jesus Christ and gave Him my life. I became a totally different person and started to grow spiritually from that point.
Fast forward to 2009, specifically the Tuesday before Easter, April 7, 2009. My wife, Lori, came to me in the morning before I headed out for work. She shared that when she was in the shower earlier that morning she felt she had a vision from the LORD. She was in our shower, but not our house – rather, a beach house in the Outer Banks. God had told her that before we were done in ministry, we’d be working with FCA out in the OBX. Soon after going into work, my supervisor called me into his office and told me that it was time for me to become an FCA area director in another location. He said I had been in Raleigh over 10 years, had learned what I needed from him and since there were areas in our state that needed directors, it was time for me to go.
Because of my conversation with Lori just a few hours earlier, I could NOT believe what he was saying! He had mentioned some possibilities, but I asked about the OBX area, and doors started opening up for us. The wonderful volunteers that have worked with FCA in the OBX and around NE NC have been so welcoming and excited about having a full time staff person here. They have done such a great job and have been so helpful. The biggest green light happened when we sold our home in Youngsville – without having to put it on the market!
We then moved to Wake Forest in a small apartment over our friends’ garage. I drove to the OBX every other week to work, trying to meet businessmen and women, church staff, FCA volunteers and leaders, coaches and athletes, and other adults and volunteers. I wanted to introduce them to FCA, invest in the area and existing ministries, help start new ones, and begin the process of raising funding for this new area.
After ten months of that living situation, we were able to rent a place in Kill Devil Hills so my family and I could be together out here and begin planting ourselves in Northeast NC. On June 1, 2010 I started here full time, leaving the Triangle office.
We’re excited about how God is unfolding this journey and are looking forward to seeing how He’ll work this out over the coming months and years. We know He is in absolute control and we’re relying on Him during this time. This is all about Him, for I am nothing without Christ and have nothing to offer without Him.
Plus, He gets all of the credit, because there's no way it has worked out and will continue to work out without His involvement, provision, and leading. We are also relying on you; 100% of our funding comes from churches, businesses, and friends like you. Community support and investment is crucial to this amazing story.
So that's it! We know that every good and perfect gift comes from the LORD.
Please continue to pray for us . . . and get involved as the Lord leads you!
